Explanations

If you know Christian culture you will probably understand all the concepts in this song. If you don't, I'll give a few short explanations to help you understand a little better (just a little better).

JESUS SAVES= /dʒi:zəs/ The meaning of this is usually something like "Jesus liberates you, Jesus makes you free". If sin is something wrong that limits you, makes you imperfect and blocks your way to true happiness, then Jesus can save you from sin and make you free and happy, because loving Him will give you the strength to overcome all your limitations. The video is showing many examples of people who found in Jesus the strength to fight and come out of the situations that were destroying them and making them unhappy.
Note: Jeremy sometimes pronounces this i:zəs/but that's not an alternative pronunciation, it's manierism, a stylish accent.

MERCY= Compassionate treatment, especially of those under one's power; clemency.

TRIUMPHS= Wins a victory (usually associated with feelings of great joy and happiness).

THE CROSS= The place where Jesus was killed. His death made us free, so the sentence "Mercy triumphs at the cross" means that when Jesus died, God's Mercy was finally opened to everyone because now everybody could find in Jesus the strength to get to God (then, going or not is your personal choice).

RESCUE= Save; to set free from a danger. The sentence "Love has come to rescue us" means that God (in the person of Jesus) has come to the world to save us from sin (spiritual danger) and make us free.

JOYFUL= Happy (though the word "joyful" sounds more intense and deep than "happy").

RAISE= Lift, put up. If you "raise a shout", you shout loud and clear, so your voice goes up and everybody can hear it.

DEBT= /det/ An offense requiring forgiveness or reparation; a trespass.
According to Christian belief, man is weak and can easily fall into sin. That imperfection makes it very difficult for him to reach God. God created men and gave them all they needed, but men cannot live a full life nor can they love Him enough because sin stops them, so they (we) are in debt with God. And then God decided to do something really dramatic to compensate for human's nature. He sent His only Son to show us the way. Jesus opposed all the evil in the world, including the oppression of the powerful and the corruption of the religious establishment of his time. The result was quite predictable, they tortured Him and killed Him (and we would do it again now). The incredible thing is that we had a debt with God, but our debt was so big that it was impossible for us to repay, so God decided to pay our debt. When Jesus died on the cross, our debt was paid, that's why the song says "Free at last, every debt has been repaid, broken hearts can be remade, Jesus saves". (I know this concept can't be explained in just one paragraph, but this is just the explanations for a song).

REPAID= If a debt is repaid (payed back), then the debt disappears.

REMADE= Mended, fixed, made again.

ABOVE= Over, higher than. If you "sing above the storms [= problems] of life", your song [= happiness] is more powerful than your problems.

HEAL= Cure; bring back health.

RESTORE= Bring something back to its original condition before something spoiled it.

REVEAL= Show something that was hidden. Explain something that was not understood.
The complete sentence is "[You] reveal your Father's heart to us" = you show us your Father, you let us know God.

YOUR FATHER= God.

YOU ROSE= (rise-rose-risen) To rise is to get up. When talking about Jesus we say that "Jesus died and rose again", which means that he resurrected, he came back to life after death.

RAISE= To make somebody get up.
The verb "rise" is intransitive (Jesus rose), The verb "raise" is transitive (Jesus raised us). Jesus brought Himself back to life after he died, and He will also raise us after we die, so that we can live forever.

GRAVE= Tomb. The place where a person is buried when they die.

SING IT OUT= Sing it loudly, with a strong voice.

NAME= In the Bible, the name of a person is their essence, their soul. To know the name of something or someone creates a connection with them. To know God's name means (figuratively) to know God.

FOR WE...= Because we...

Meaning

What do we mean when we say that JESUS SAVES?

Christians believe that the sin is what limits men. Sins are defaults, things we do wrong and harm us. We want to have a full life, be happy, good and perfect, but we can't because we are not perfect, we sin. So how can an imperfect being wish for perfection? Is it worth even trying? Well, God thinks it is, so He sent his own son, Jesus, to make the supreme and ultimate sacrifice that would save us all: He died on the cross for us. At that moment, the chains of sin were removed from humanity and we became free... potentially.

The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross left the door opened for us, but we are still prisoners of our sins unless we cross it. But how can we cross it? Believing that Jesus (God) is our saviour is not enough, we have to really feel Him and love Him more than anything else. That love is what saves us, what gives us strength to break all our limitations and do the right things. And it's not difficult to love Him when we know Him, because, as the Bible says, "He loved us first". If he died for us, is there a bigger proof of love?

People who feel this great love finally find the strength to stand up and reject all the things that are harmful and make us unhappy. Drug addicts can stop consuming drugs, sad people find comfort and happiness, cowards turn brave and everybody finds a purpose in life. If falling in love with a person can make your life brighter, imagine what loving God can make to you. "Jesus saves" is something that most people think is just an empty slogan... but not for those lucky ones who feel His love deep inside.
