Description

The Easter drama begins right here. In the middle, an anguished Jesus fearing his close torment. On one side, a loving Mary Magdalene trying to bring comfort. On the other side, a hateful Judas, his very friend, accusing him of spoiling everything and being a fool.

Against all his friend's mind, Jesus is determined to go to Jerusalem. Everybody thinks it's very dangerous, they may try to kill him. Jesus knows they will kill him. So you could cut the tension with a knife.

In the middle of all that, Mary tries to help Jesus relax and forget all his worries at least for that night. But Judas can't control himself anymore and accuses Jesus of being a fool, ruining everything and putting all of them in danger. Judas wanted Jesus to lead a bloody rebellion against the imperialist power of Rome, and Jesus' obstinacy to go to Jerusalem and risk death might put an end to all their efforts. But Jesus has other plans, seeks a different kind of revolution, and he knows that only through death can he bring victory, and the only blood he needs to shed is his own.

The conflict is served, the treason is now unstoppable, but what Judas can't understand is that, as Mary puts it, "everything's alright", and even his treason will be alright, because it will push Jesus into the hands of his killers and, eventually, his despicable betrayal will bring Jesus to the ultimate triumph on the cross. God always turns evil into good somehow, because evil eventually passes away, and sooner or later only good prevails.

As fully God, Jesus knew his destiny, he knew he had to die and he knew death was his way to victory. But as fully man, he was anguished and horrified about all the torture and suffering and abandonment he was about to go through. That's why Mary Magdalene's soothing words were so appreciated and needed, and those words also reveal and summarise the beauty and the essence of Christian faith: HOPE, and the certainty that no matter what, even if we can't understand, even if it seems horrible and evil... everything's alright and evil will never prevail.

Try not to get worried, try not to turn on to
Problems that upset you, oh.
Don't you know
Everything's alright, yes, everything's fine.
And we want you to sleep well tonight.
Let the world turn without you tonight.
If we try, we'll get by, so forget all about us tonight

Everythings alright, yes,
everything's alright, yes.

Sleep and I shall soothe you
Calm you, and anoint you...
Myrrh for your hot forehead, oh.
Then you'll feel
Everything's alright, yes, everything's fine.
And it's cool, and the ointment's sweet
For the fire in your head and feet.
Close your eyes, close your eyes
And relax, think of nothing tonight.

Everything's alright,
yes, everything's alright, yes.

Woman your fine ointment, brand new and expensive
Should have been saved for the poor.
Why has it been wasted? We could have raised maybe
Three hundred silver pieces or more.
People who are hungry, people who are starving
They matter more than your feet and hair

Try not to get worried, try not to turn on to
Problems that upset you, oh.
Don't you know
Everything's alright,
yes, everything's alright, yes.

Surely you're not saying we have the resources
To save the poor from their lot?
There will be poor always, pathetically struggling.
Look at the good things you've got.
Think while you still have me!
Move while you still see me!
You'll be lost and you'll be sorry when I'm gone.

Sleep and I shall soothe you
Calm you and anoint you...
Myrrh for your hot forehead, oh.
Then you'll feel
Everything's alright, yes, everything's fine.
And it's cool and the ointment's sweet
For the fire in your head and feet.
Close your eyes, close your eyes, and
