Transcript

They say you have a monster here. They say your lands are cursed.

There have been many brave men who have come, but in the morning, there was nothing left but blood on the floor, and the vultures, and the war.

I am Beowulf. I will kill your monster.

Do you want me to go in with you?
Good.

Are you the one they call Beowulf? Such a strong man you are!

Show yourself!!

Tonight will be different...

I am ripper, terror, slasher. I’m the teeth in the darkness, the talons in the night.

My name is strength, and lust, and power. I am Beowulf.

Explanations

CURSED= past participle of "to curse", which means to be damned. To curse someone/something is to ask a supernatural power to cause something very unpleasant to happen to them/it.

THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT= nothing remained, there was nothing. The construction is TO BE LEFT, or THERE IS X LEFT. If you have two things left, it means that you had more things before but now you only have two.

BLOOD= the red liquid which is inside your body and makes you be alive. Be careful with the pronunciation, we use the vowel in HUT (not the vowel in COOK or in BOOT)

VULTURES= big birds that feed from death animals (pronounced /vʌltʃə*z/)

SUCH A STRONG MAN YOU ARE!= this exclamation sounds more emphatic than the more normal "you are such a strong man!". In exclamations, we use SO before adjectives and SUCH before nouns: You’re so strong / You’re such a strong man!

RIPPER= someone who rips. To RIP is to break something into pieces.
SLASHER= someone who slashes. If you slash something you make a long, deep cut in it with something sharp.
TALON= claws, the paw (hand) of some birds (that have long sharp nails to attack with them.

LUST= a very strong desire (usually about sex, but not in this case).
