Description

This is the trailer for the prequel of the animation movie "Despicable Me", telling the story of the minions, those funny and silly little yellow creatures.

The film is scheduled to be released on July 10, 2015.

A "prequel" is a movie that tells the story of what happens before an older movie. It is built by analogy on the word "sequel", which is a movie telling the story of what happens after an older movie. Does is make sense?

Transcript

Minions.
Minions have been on this planet far longer than we have.
They go by many names: Dave, Carl...
Oh, that one is Norbit. He's an idiot.

They all share the same goal:
To serve the most despicable master around.

Finding a master was easy.
Keeping a master... that's where things got tricky.
But nonetheless they kept on looking.

Without a master, they had no purpose.
They became aimless and depressed.
If this went on much longer, they would surely perish.

But then one Minion stepped forward!
Kevin felt pride. He was going to be the one to find his tribe the biggest baddest villain to serve.

Stuart felt hungry mostly.
He was going to be the one to eat this banana.
And Bob... Bob was frightened of the journey ahead.

(note: Minions speak an invented language, but some words are similar to English and can be recognised)

Explanations

FAR LONGER= Much longer.

THEY GO BY MANY NAMES= They have many different names; they are called in different ways.

IDIOT= A stupid or retarded person.

GOAL= Objective, aim, target, wish.

DESPICABLE= Someone who is really bad, disgusting and morally evil, so they deserve despise and rejection.

TRICKY= Difficult, complicated.

NONETHELESS= Nevertheless.
- That's too big. Nonetheless I like it = That's too big but I like it.

KEPT ON LOOKING= Continued looking for the most despicable master around.

THEY HAD NO PURPOSE= Their life was empty, meaningless; they had no reason to live.

AIMLESS= Without aim, without a goal. If you are aimless, you don't know what to do because you can't find something important to do.

WENT ON= Continued.

PERISH= Die.

STEPPED FORWARD= If there is a problem and you "step forward", you volunteer or decide to be the leader and move people to solve that problem.

PRIDE= A very good opinion of yourself.

BADDEST= The superlative of BAD is WORST. In American slang, "baddest" can be used meaning "worst", but it is more often used meaning "the greatest", so in some way it means "the best". So "the baddest villain" is "the best villain", that is, the worst person.

VILLAIN= An evil (very bad) person. The opposite of "hero".

MOSTLY= In this context: usually; almost entirely (more than anything else).

AHEAD= In front of you (in space); in the near future (in time).
