On this video they use both constructions: CAN I...? and MAY I...? (more polite the second) to ask for permission.

Pardon me = Excuse me

- Pardon me, miss, but can I speak to you for a minute?

- Pardon me, miss, but may I speak to you for a minute?
- Pardon me, miss, but may I speak to you for a second?
