Description

Featuring Frank's daughter: Nancy Sinatra. This is a song that Nancy Sinatra recorded in 1967 joined by her father Frank (a.k.a. "The Voice"). Despite of living under the long shadow of Frank´s name, the fact is that Nancy was able to carve out a name in the show business by herself (with a little help from daddy, I suppose...). So, she was considered an icon in the late sixties and female teenagers bought her singles and followed her image (short skirt, long boots, cool suits...) with passion.

Her greatest hit was a song called "These Boots Are Made For Walkin' ", a song you have probably listened hundreds of times. "Something Stupid" was another hit, and a few decades later Robbie Williams made his own cover (joined at this time by Nicole Kidman, who algo sings).

Sorry but I couldn´t find a video of the two singing, but the slideshow of photos of Frankie with friends making fun deserves a look!

Transcript

I know I stand in line
Until you think you have the time
To spend an evening with me
And if we go some place to dance
I know that there's a chance
You won't be leaving with me

And afterwards we drop into a quiet little place
And have a drink or two
And then I go and spoil it all
By saying something stupid
Like: "I love you"

I can see it in your eyes
That you despise the same old lies
You heard the night before
And though it's just a line to you
For me it's true
It never seemed so right before

I practise every day
To find some clever lines to say
To make the meaning come through
But then I think I'll wait
Until the evening gets late
And I'm alone with you

The time is right
Your perfume fills my head
The stars get red
And oh the night's so blue
And then I go and spoil it all
By saying something stupid
Like: "I love you"

The time is right
Your perfume fills my head
The stars get red
And oh the night's so blue
And then I go and spoil it all
By saying something stupid
Like: "I love you"

I love you, I love you, I love you, ....

Meaning

This songs expresses a universal feeling: the sense of insecurity when we are with a loved one. Will I say a silly thing to my darling? What can I say to her to gain her attention and interest? At the end, everything is reduced to the essential: words so simple but so deep like I love you or You are the reason I wake up every morning. But at those moments you can think if your behaviour is too old-fashioned or affected, and due to that, you say nothing and your girl/boy thinks you are insensitive or cold!

But then again, you express your feelings and it happens to be too soon for that, and you go and spoil everything!

This song talks about this dychotomy.
