Description

This is video 2 of the lesson about the Passive Voice. What is the difference between He gave me a book and a book was given to me?

In this second part Jennifer teaches how to make passive sentences using the direct object or the indirect object as the subject of the passive sentence.

You can watch the first part of this video here: THE PASSIVE 1

Explanations

When an active verb is complemented by a direct and an indirect object, the equivalent passive may have the direct object as subject, but it usually has the indirect one.

they gave her some flowers (we're talking about they or maybe it is an impersonal "they", see note above)
some flowers were given to her  (we're talking about the flowers)

she was given some flowers   (we're talking about her)
