This is the song that plays during the end credits of the movie The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, the second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. Watch trailer here.
Director Peter Jackson and his co-producer wife Fran Walsh chose to Sheeran to write and perform the tune following the advice of their daughter. "'I See Fire' is Ed's emotional response to the film," said Jackson. "It's perfect."

Keep watching over Durin's sons Keep careful watch of my brothers' souls Oh, misty eye of the mountain below And should the sky be filled with fire and smoke |
Calling out father, stand by and we will Then we shall all burn together Watch the flames climb high into the night Watch the flames burn auburn on the mountain side If this is to end in fire |
Raise a glass of wine for the last time And if we should die tonight Calling out father, prepare as we will Desolation comes upon the sky Watch the flames burn auburn on the mountain side Then we should all die together |
I see fire, burning the trees Now I see fire, inside the mountain And I see fire, hollowing souls And I hope that you'll remember me I see fire, blood in the breeze |
We got too close to the flame Oh, should my people fall Calling out father hold fast and we will Confined in mountain halls Desolation comes upon the sky Then surely I'll do the same Watch the flames burn auburn on the mountain side |
And I see fire, hollowing souls I see fire, blood in the breeze I see fire, burning the trees And I hope that you'll remember me Now I see fire, inside the mountain |
I hear my people screaming out It crashed into this lonely town I will cover my eyes For if the dark returns then And as the sky's falling down And if the night is burning And with that shadow upon the ground My brothers will die |
I see fire, hollowing souls I see fire, blood in the breeze I see fire, burning the trees Now I see fire, inside the mountains |
I see fire, feel the heat upon my skin (fire) And I see fire (fire) And I see fire burn auburn on the mountain side I see fire, oh you know I saw a city burning (fire) |
