How To Be Better at Starting and Concluding a thesis?

04/02/2022

First off, what exactly is a thesis or rather a thesis statement? It is a long essay or dissertation involving personal research. It is mostly written by a candidate for a university degree. Which explains the importance of it being written carefully and properly.

Although it will look a bit different depending on the type of essay you are writing. It is important that your work statement clearly states the main idea you want to pass across, this is the major key to writing something perfect. There are majorly three characteristics that qualify a good statement, they are concise, coherent, and contentious.

The two main parts of a thesis are the introduction and conclusion. A proper introduction and conclusion will determine the success of your thesis. In this article, you will be given tips to start and conclude.

How to start

This may appear to be the most difficult part. Writing an introduction can be intimidating, but you may find out that once you start it gets easier. Before you start, you must do your research on your desired topic. The purpose and quality of a good introduction is that it draws your readers attention. Here are some points to help you write a good introduction:

Know your readers, take a pause and ask yourself, who are your readers? Once you identify your readers, the best approach is to write your work with them in mind. You should also consider readers who are not specialists in your field. These considerations will make your work better understandable and interesting to read.

Grab your reader's attention

More like captivating your reader. The first sentence is very crucial, as it would determine if your paper would be skipped or not. It is common to start with a question or quotation; however, this approach is kind of stale. The best way to start is with a sentence that is broad and interesting and would make it easy to transition to your argument.

Provide relevant background

This also qualifies as a good introduction. Try to explain and give enough background information to allow the reader to understand the statement and argument. You may need to define some terms, depending on the topic.

Expose your reader to a general knowledge of what you are writing

Let your reader know the importance and purpose of the study. Show your reader that you have in-depth knowledge of what you are writing on. Also, explain the practical relevance of your research.

How to conclude

The conclusion is another crucial part of your work. Here are ways to end your work

Restate your work

The best way to start your conclusion is by reminding your reader exactly what you are writing on. Ensure to be firm in your conclusion as you were in your introduction.

Review the key points of your work

To end, you should summarize the main point of the write up as a whole. Try to reference your introduction in your conclusion. Connecting your introduction to your conclusion will keep your readers satisfied and make them see your intent.

Explain the relevance of your work

Try to convince readers that may not agree with what you have written. Make sure you explain why your work is relevant to your field of research.

Conclusion

If you can have these main parts written properly then it is perfect. A thesis should be convincing and interesting. That is how you know you have written a good one.
