MasterBlaster
This game has been designed to learn vocabulary (and expressions). An item is offered, together with 4 possible matches. Click on the correct match to get a positive point and pass on to the next item. If you choose the wrong option you can keep trying until you hit the correct one, but you will get a negative point anyway. Items will appear constantly and in a random order, so you can play the game for as long as you want, helping you to assimilate the new vocabulary easily.
In the beginning you can make the game more easy or more complicated by choosing the speed of the timer or by turning it off. If the timer is on, you'll only get a positive point if you click the correct answer before the time is off.
The activity may typically have an English word and possible translations to another language, or short definitions. On starting the activity you can choose if you want to be given the English word or the definition. Some activities may also come with a phonetic transcription of the words, in that case you can also choose to be shown the transcription in order to guess the word transcribed there. This way you can practise all the three things you need to know about a word: its spelling, its meaning and its pronunciation.
To make sure you really master the new vocabulary you should be able to get a high score (80% minimum) using the timer at medium or high speed. Practise again and again until you can get that result. Speed is the key to a proper assimilation process.
LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES (only for activities where this feature makes sense):
When you finish the activity you'll see the number of hits you got right and wrong. If you made mistakes, good, now you can learn from your mistakes. The next time you do this activity you will see a red button to play only mistakes . If you click on that button you will repeat the activity but this time only with the items you failed before, so you can concentrate on those difficult bits you need to master. Your mistake revision will be available to you for one year since the last time you played that activity, so you have plenty of time for revision. If you are not a registered user your mistakes will only be remembered for one day and then they'll be forgotten, so still one more reason to register.
On the opening page of the activity there is an icon to see, download or print all the exercises if you want.
