Take me down to the river bend
Take me down to the fighting end
Wash the poison from off my skin
Show me how to be whole again
Fly me up on a silver wing
Past the black, where the sirens sing
Warm me up in the novice glow
and drop me down to the dream below
'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything left for you to see
For you to see
Bring me home in a blinding dream,
through the secrets that I have seen
Wash the sorrow from off my skin
and show me how to be whole again
'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything left for you to see
For you to see
For you to see
'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything else I need to be
'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything left for you to see
For you to see
For you to see
WARM ME UP= Make me feel warm (=love me), because I am cold (= I need love).
"Castle of Glass" is one of the more darker songs on Living Things, using electronic elements from other songs on the album and from the band's previous studio album, A Thousand Suns.
The song also incorporates elements of country music, and is structurally a Folk rock song.
The music video shows a young boy being told that his father had died. The boy and his mother mourn the death as the sailor's teammates and their families try to comfort them. The band is shown playing with a storm where shattered pieces of glass circle the band. Towards the end the boy goes through his father's possessions, fast forwarding to him becoming a SEAL, like his father before him. At the end of the video we see the man telling a girl the heartbreaking news of her family member, as she too cries.
The video ends with a quote from Winston Churchill: All great things are simple, and many can be expressed in single words: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.
