P!nk & Nate Ruess together. The song reflects the discord which often happens when communication is not open and the relationship begins to dissolve as a result. But where there is love, there is hope.

You can enjoy an amazing live version here.

Right from the start, you were a thief,
You stole my heart
And I'm your willing victim
I let you see the parts of me
That weren't all that pretty,
And with every touch you fixed them.

Now, you've been talking in your sleep
Oh oh, things you never say to me
Oh oh, tell me that you've had enough
Of our love, our love.

Just give me a reason,
Just a little bit's enough,
Just a second, we're not broken
Just bent
and we can learn to love again.
It's in the stars,
It's been written in the scars on our hearts.
We're not broken
Just bent and we can learn to love again.

I'm sorry I don't understand
Where all of this is coming from.
I thought that we were fine.
(Oh, we had everything)

Your head is running wild again.
My dear, we still have everything
And it's all in your mind.
(Yeah, but this is happenin')

You've been having real bad dreams.
Oh oh, you used to lie so close to me.
Oh oh, there's nothing more than empty sheets
Between our love, our love.
Oooh, our love, our love.

Just give me a reason,
Just a little bit's enough.
Just a second, we're not broken
Just bent and we can learn to love again.
I never stopped.
It's still written in the scars on my heart.
You're not broken
Just bent and we can learn to love again.

Oh, tear ducts and rust.
I'll fix it for us.
We're collecting dust,
But our love's enough.
You're holding it in,
You're pouring a drink.
No, nothing is as bad as it seems.
We'll come clean!!

Just give me a reason,
Just a little bit's enough.
Just a second, we're not broken
Just bent and we can learn to love again.
It's in the stars,
It's been written in the scars on our hearts
That we're not broken
Just bent and we can learn to love again.

Just give me a reason,
Just a little bit's enough.
Just a second, we're not broken
Just bent and we can learn to love again.
It's in the stars,
It's still written in the scars on our hearts
That we're not broken
Just bent and we can learn to love again.

Ooh, we can learn to love again
Ooh, we can learn to love again
Oh, that we're not broken
Just bent and we can learn to love again.

RIGHT FROM THE START= Exactly from the beginning ("Right" is often an emphasizer).

THIEF= /θi:f/ A person who steals something from another.

YOU STOLE MY HEART= If someone steals your heart it means that you are completely in love with him, you can never feel the same way about any other person.

WILLING VICTIM= Voluntary victim.

TOUCH=/tʌtʃ/ or gesture of fondness, tenderness, or love.

FIX= To repair, to restore.

YOU'VE HAD ENOUGH /ɪnʌf/= If you have enough of something, you don't want more of it.

GIVE ME A REASON= Give me a motive, a basis.

JUST A LITTLE BIT= I just need a small amount.

WE ARE NOT BROKEN JUST BENT= (bend-bent-bent) There is another opportunity to recover our love. This line reflects that with a little work and a lot of communication, a relationship can be saved if both parties are willing to try to work it out. If you press on just one side of something rigid (for example a wooden spoon), it may break, but if it is flexible (for example grass) it only bends, but doesn't break. When something breaks... it's broken, but if something bends, it can straighten up again to its original state, so the problem is solved.

IT'S IN THE STARS= (also: I'ts written in the stars). The ancient belief in astrology says that the destiny of people is governed by the planets (the stars), so if we say that something is in the stars, that means that it will happen for sure.

SCARS= A lingering sign of damage or injury, either mental or physical. (see picture). The scars of your heart are memories of past emotional suffering that still hurts when you remember it.

RUNNING WILD= Running with no control, incapable of being controlled or managed. Your head is being uncontrolled again.

MY DEAR= (Term of affection) My darling, my love.

REAL= (coll. esp. AmE) really, very.

BAD DREAMS= Nigthmares.

USED TO=  We use this to talk about things we often did in the past but not now anymore, so we make a contrast between past and present.

LIE= (lie-lay-lain) To be in a horizontal position. Don't confuse this with the regular verb "lie-lied-lied" which means to tell a lie (something which is not true).

CLOSE TO ME= Very near me.

TEAR DUCTS=  /tɪə dʌsts/ The nontechnical name for lacrimal ducts; small ducts that carry tears from the lacrimal glands. (see picture)

RUST=  /rʌst/ (Figuratively) Deterioration resulting from inactivity or neglect (especially used for metals, but also figuratively). See the picture.

FIX= Mend, repair. "I'll fix it for us"= I'll solve our problem, I'll make things better between you and me.

COLLECTING= Accumulating.

YOU'RE HOLDING IT IN= If you hold something in, you don't express it, and that can create resentment.

YOU'RE POURING /pɔ:rɪŋ/ A DRINK= To pour a drink is to put an alcoholic drink from a bottle into a glass. Some people drink alcohol when they have problems to forget.

WE'LL COME CLEAN= We will be renovated and purified when this problem is solved.

It's written about the desire that someone feels when they want to hold on to a relationship which appears to be breaking down over time.

P!nk explains that one partner can read too much into the actions of the other, when in reality they meant nothing of the sort. She explains that "Just give me a Reason'' was written for couples who have a hard time communicating and therefore feel like it is all coming to an end.
