Inspired by the book 'The Fault in Our Stars' by John Green.

When Troye Sivan read 'The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, was so moved by the book and he wrote a song inspired by it and not only that, but he also asked permission by the Princess Margaret Hospital to make a music video during a visit there.

Before posting the official music video onto YouTube, he posted the song to Tumblr. Over the period of that night he had more than 100,000 notes, many of which expressed support for a music video; Sivan decided he would make one. He went to Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, located in Perth, and filmed the official music video. There, he spent the day with two girls suffering from cancer, Kimmy and Montana.

The weight of a simple human emotion
weighs me down, more than the tank ever did.
The pain, it's determined and demanding to ache.
But I'm okay...

And I don't want to let this go,
I don't want to lose control,
I just want to see the stars with you.

And I don't wanna say goodbye,
someone tell me why,
I just want to see the stars with you.

You lost, a part of your existence in the war,
against yourself
.
Oh, the lights, they light up in lights of sadness, telling you,
it's time to go.

And I don't want to let this go,
I don't want to lose control,
I just want to see the stars with you.

And I don't wanna say goodbye,
someone tell me why,
I just want to see the stars with you.

Don't give it up just yet,
stay grand for one more minute,
don't give it up just yet stay grand.

Don't give it up just yet,
stay grand for one more minute,
don't give it up just yet stay grand.

Don't give it up just yet,
stay grand for one more minute,
don't give it up just yet stay grand.

And I don't want to let this go,
I don't want to lose control,
I just want to see the stars with you.

And I don't wanna say goodbye,
someone tell me why,
I just want to see the stars with you....
With you.

WEIGHT= the amount or quantity of heaviness or mass.

HUMAN EMOTION= The part of the consciousness that involves feeling; sensibility. An affective state of consciousness in which joy, sorrow, fear, etc., is experienced, as distinguished from cognitive and volitional states of consciousness.

WEIGHS ME DOWN= (Weigh somebody down) To burden or oppress.

TANK= Storage container for liquids. The emotions the lead female protagonist, Hazel Grace feels regarding the death of her love, Augustus Waters, such as sadness and grieve, is a heavier burden to carry than carrying the oxygen tank around. It is more difficult for her to to live with the pain of losing someone she loved, than it is to live with cancer.

THE PAIN IS DETERMINED AND DEMANDING TO ACHE= This is in reference to the book, 'The Fault in Our Stars' by John Green: 'That's the thing about pain, Augustus said, and then glanced back at me: it demands to be felt'. As much as we try and hide from pain and try and pretend to be happy, we cannot deny hurt and pain. It will always prod at us and catch up with us, until we acknowledge it. It is too difficult to pretend our pain does not exist.

I JUST WANT TO SEE THE STARS WITH YOU= This is a play on the title 'The Fault in Our Stars. She just wants to lay down next to her love and enjoy the simple act of being together. The stars also symbolize infinity and she wishes they could have more time, perhaps even a forever, together.

YOU LOST A PART OF YOUR EXISTENCE IN THE WAR, AGAINST YOURSELF= Cancer is like a battle against yourself, because it's your own body turning against you. You are constantly fighting against your own body. When the boy died, he lost his life and thus lost the battle . It is only a part of his existence because a part of him will still live on through the memory his love, Hazel, holds of him.

LIGHT UP= (Figurative) Brighten with joy, become brighter.

LIGHTS OF SADNESS= When a cancer patient undergoes a PET scan, it will usually light up to indicate which parts of their body contains tumors. In the novel, Augusts says: 'I lit up like a Christmas tree, Hazel Grace'.

IT'S TIME TO GO= There's no time left. His entire body was filled with cancer, and the lights of the PET scan were an indication to him that he did not have much time left to live.

DON'T GIVE IT UP= Don't stop trying.

STAY GRAND FOR ONE MORE MINUTE= She wishes he could stay alive and happy for just a minute longer. The term 'grand' was always used by Augustus to describe how he felt -extraordinarily good or great-.

He explained the premise of his song and the experience he's had when he visited the oncology ward in his local children's hospital. If you know the story of "The Fault In Our Stars" or if you've been a victim of cancer (through your personal experience or battle, or through someone else who you care about), it would be quite difficult to keep your tears from falling. This song is simple and powerful.

'Fault in Our Stars' is a novel by author John Green which revolves around the lives of Hazel and Augustus. The novel follows the love, struggles and complexity of the relationship between Augustus, an amputee due to osteosarcoma, and Hazel, who has Stage 4 Thyroid cancer, who met each other through a support group. I don't want to go into too much details to avoid spoilers.

He wrote the song after being inspired by the novel and its heart-wrenching story. He captured precisely the emotions depicted in the novel.
