A song by contemporary Christian singer tobyMac from his third album, Portable Sounds, released in December, 2006. The song quickly began to climb on R&R's contemporary hit radio chart at the start of 2007, and reached number 1 during the first week of January 2007. "Made to Love" is a Christian worship song, labelled as having a "laidback groove" with a neo soul sound.

TobyMac started his musical career in 1989 as one of the first Christian rappers and this is one of his most popular hits in both mainstream and Christian radios.

You can see this singalong version of the song here.

The dream is fading, now I'm staring at the door
I know it's over cause my feet have hit the cold floor
Check my reflection, I ain't feelin' what I see
It's no mystery
Whatever happened to a passion I could live for
What became of the flame that made me feel more
And when did I forget that...

I was made to love you
I was made to find you
I was made just for you
Made to adore you
I was made to love
And be loved by you
You were here before me
You were waiting on me
And you said you'd keep me
Never would you leave me
I was made to love
and be loved by you

The dream's alive with my eyes opened wide
Back in the ring you've got me swinging for the grand prize
I feel the haters spittin' vapours on my dreams
But I still believe
I'm reachin' out, reachin' up, reachin' over
I feel a breeze cover me called Jehovah
And Daddy I'm on my way
Cause I was made to love...

I was made to love you
I was made to find you
I was made just for you
Made to adore you
I was made to love
And be loved by you
You were here before me
You were waiting on me
And you said you'd keep me
Never would you leave me I was made to love
and be loved by you

I was made to love you
I was made just for you
Made to adore you
I was made to love
And be loved by you
You were here before me
You were waiting on me
And you said you'd keep me
Never would you leave me I was made to love
and be loved by you

(nah, nah, nah, nah - nah, nah, nah, nah, nah)

Anything I would give up for you (nah, nah, nah, nah, nah)
Everything, I'd give it all away (nah, nah, nah, nah, nah)

Anything I would give up for you (nah, nah, nah, nah, nah)
Everything, I'd give it all away (nah, nah, nah, nah, nah)

Anything I would give up for you (nah, nah, nah, nah, nah)
Everything, I'd give it, I'd give it all away, Oh yeah

Cause I was made to love you (I was made to love you)

FADING= Disappearing, weakening.

STARING= Looking fixedly, intensely.
When we feel sad or are lost in our thoughts, we often stare at some point (anything which is not move will do) and concentrate our thoughts inside our head or heart. So now he feels lost and sad and he's staring at the door while thinking how sorry he feels for having lost the love he used to feel inside.

IT'S OVER= If something is over, it has finished.

CAUSE= (coll.) Because.

MY FEET HAVE HIT THE COLD FLOOR= If you are very happy, if you are in love, you feel like you're floating, like you're flying. When you lose that feeling, you "stop floating" and come down to earth, but the floor is cold, so that situation is bad.

I AIN'T FEELING= (coll.) I'm not feeling
This colloquial form is used as the negative of the verb to be or the verb to have:
- I ain't no student = I'm not a student
- he ain't here = he's not here
- you ain't gotta clue about it = you haven't got a clue about it (you have no idea, you don't know anything about it).

IT'S NO MYSTERY= It's easy to understand.

WHAT BECAME OF...?= What happened with...?

WHATEVER= (also spelled "what ever") A more emphatic form of WHAT:
- Whatever are you looking at? = What the hell are you looking at?

WAITING ON ME= If you are waiting ON someone, you are taking care of their needs, you provide them with everything they need.

KEEP= The opposite of "reject, refuse".
- This is for you. You can keep it or throw it away.

NEVER WOULD YOU LEAVE ME= You would never leave me.
In old English, when a sentence started with an adverb we needed an inversion. In modern English this still happens with certain adverbs.

BACK IN THE RING= If you return to the ring, if you are back in the ring, you start fighting again. This ring is the place where boxers fight each other (by the way, today it is not a ring, but a square platform). After a round of fighting, boxers are too exhausted and go to their corners to sit and rest. After some time, they feel better and "go back to the ring". The singer now feels invigorated and wants to go back to "fight".

SWINGING= Another metaphor from boxing. If a boxer swings, he fights/punches his opponent.

THE GRAND PRIZE= A prize is a present, a reward. The "grand prize" is a wonderful prize, the maximum you can get in that category.

THE HATERS= People who hate (the opposite of people who love).

SPITTING VAPOURS ON MY DREAMS= If your dream is like an image and they spit vapour on that image, it gets blurred (like on a mirror). That means that they are trying to make your dream go out of focus and lose intensity and reality.

REACHING OUT=  Extending your arm forward in order to touch or make contact.

REACHING UP= The same as "reach out" but an upward movement.

REACHING OVER= The same as "reach out" (e.g. He reached over and turned off the alarm clock)

I FEEL A BREEZE COVER ME CALLED JEHOVAH= I feel a breeze surrounding me, blowing all over me, and the name of that breeze is Jehovah. This simply means that he feels the presence of God.
This image is drawn from the Bible: "God in the gentle breeze!' That passage is about Elijah's encounter with God. "There was a great wind, so strong that it was splitting mountains and breaking rocks in pieces before God, but God was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but God was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but God was not in the fire; and after the fire a sound of a gentle breeze. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle..!' (I Kings 19:11-13).

JEHOVAH= /dʒi:həʊvə/ God.
This is a controversial name for God, because although some people still use it, most scholars agree that it is a wrong transcription:
In Exodus 3:15 we read: God said to Moses, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: 'The LORD (YHWH) God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.'"
YHWH is a Hebrew word for which we have only the four consonants. We do NOT have the vowels, there were no vowels in the Hebrew alphabet, and pronouncing the name of God was forgiven, so in time, it was forgotten. When Jews read the Bible, they pronounced "Adonai" (= the Lord) instead of using this forbidden word. Much later they produced a version of the Bible using vowels to help students read the now unspoken Hebrew language. They didn't know how to pronounce YHWH, but they used the vowels of the word "Adonai" to remember people that they should pronounce that word "Adonai", so the spelling was like this YaHoWaiH. This artificial word sounded more or less like Jehovah when pronounced by modern German Jews, and that is the name that some Bibles used in their translation, though most translations preferred the traditional "the Lord". Modern linguistical research has concluded that the most probable pronunciation for this word is YaHWeH (Yahweh). Even "Jehovah Witnesses" (a religious branch) acknowledge today that "Jehovah" is an improbable pronunciation, but they still use it for traditional reasons.

DADDY= Dear Father, God.
The Bible says that Jesus called God "Abba", which literally means "daddy".

I'M ON MY WAY= I'm going to you.
If you're on your way to a place, you are going there. If someone calls you and you say "I'm on my way", it's the same as "I'm coming".

The idea of the song is that God created us to love Him. This may sound a bit like a selfish action, but if we consider that God is love, then loving God is loving Love. Some people say that "love makes the world go round" and others say that "money makes the world go round". They are both probably right, because people can choose either of two, but if you choose love, you'll be happy, if you choose money, you'll always want more and will be forever unsatisfied. And that is because God made us to love (not to spend money), so we can only be truly happy when we love, when we are in love with Love.

But the singer has been drawn into the world's rat race (probably "money makes the world go round") and now he can't feel the love of God inside him anymore:

The dream is fading, now I'm staring at the door
I know it's over cause my feet have hit the cold floor

He regrets having lost that flame of love that once was burning inside of him:

Whatever happened to a passion I could live for
What became of the flame that made me feel more
And when did I forget that...
I was made to love you... And be loved by you

But not everything is lost, he can still remember how it was and feel there is a little something still burning inside:

The dream's alive with my eyes opened wide

Things are not easy, though, because society is fighting against us, telling us that those are not realities, but fantasies. But there is hope, because I still believe:

I feel the haters spitting vapours on my dreams
But I still believe

And now, in case someone still didn't know what he was talking about, he mentions who is that someone he needs to love:

I feel a breeze cover me called Jehovah
And daddy I'm on my way
Cause I was made to love You.
