Lesson Of Life | Motivational Story In English

Once upon a time, there was a boy who lived in a city. One day, he came to his grandfather's house to meet him. In the summer holidays, he used to play with his grandfather all the time.

One day, he said to his grandfather, "Grandfather, when I grow up, I want to be a successful man. Tell me, what should I do to be successful?" Grandfather said, "Son, you will have to work hard to be successful. You will have to face challenges and learn from them."

Grandfather took the boy to a garden. There, he bought two small plants and brought them home. He put one plant inside the house in a pot and put the other plant outside the house in the ground.

Grandfather asked the boy, "What do you think, which of these plants will be bigger and stronger?" The boy thought and said, "I think the plant inside the house will be bigger and stronger because there will be no damage inside the house, while the outside plant will be in danger of rain, sunlight, and animals." Grandfather said, "Okay, let's see what happens."

Four years later, the boy again came to meet his grandfather. Grandfather showed the boy the plants inside and outside the house. The plant inside the house was still small and weak, while the outside plant had turned into a big tree. Its leaves were big and green, its stems were strong. This tree was very big, and there was space for people to sit under it.

Grandfather said to the boy, "You saw that the plant inside the house was small and weak, while the outside plant had turned into a big tree. This happened because the outside plant was in danger of rain, sunlight, and animals, but to fight these dangers, it made itself strong."

Grandfather said to the boy, "Son, this is what happens in life. If we do not face challenges, we will not be able to succeed. We become strong by facing challenges."

ONCE UPON A TIME = /wʌns əˈpɒn ə taɪm/ - This phrase is commonly used to begin fairy tales. It signifies that the story takes place in the past and often introduces a magical or fantastical setting.

Successful = /səkˈsesfl/ Achieving, getting or obtaining what you want.

Face (v.) = /feɪs/ To confront or deal with a situation.

Challenges = /ˈtʃælɪndʒɪz/ Difficult situations that require effort to overcome.

Pot = /pɒt/ A container for growing plants.

Ground = /grnd/ The solid surface of the earth.

Damage = /'dæmɪdʒ/ harm, injury, destruction.

Leaves = /li:vz/ The flat green parts of plants that grow from stems.

Stems = /stemz/ The main structural parts of plants that hold the leaves and flowers.

While = /wail/ In this case, it means the same as "but". We can use "while" to express contrast.

The meaning or lesson of this story is that facing challenges and difficulties in life is essential for personal growth and success. Just like the plant that grew stronger outside despite facing adversity, individuals become stronger and more resilient when they confront and overcome obstacles. The story emphasizes the importance of perseverance, resilience, and learning from challenges to achieve success in life.
