It's the 21st century, but the gods of Mount Olympus and assorted monsters have walked out of the pages of high school student Percy Jackson's Greek mythology texts and into his life. And they're not happy: Zeus' lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Even more troubling is the sudden disappearance of Percy's mother.

As Percy adapts to his newly discovered status as a demi-god (his father is Poseidon), he finds himself caught between the battling titans of Mt. Olympus. He and his friends embark on a cross-country adventure to catch the true lightning thief, save Percy's mom, and unravel a mystery more powerful than the gods themselves.

- And he's alive! Ha ha ha.
- How long was that?
- Seven minutes. That's crazy, man. How do you do it?
- I don't know. I just like being in water. It's the one place I can think.

- There are 12 Olympians gods. The Great 3's are the brothers: Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. The children of these gods were half human, half gods.

- Hey mum, I thought the school was supposed to make things better.
- Some day it'll all make sense.
- Percy Jackson. We need to talk.
- Miss Dots? Whoa!

- I found him?
- Who found me?

- We've been expecting you.
- The gods are real.
- My father's Poseidon
- God of the seas.
- Wow.

Between myths and legends...

- Zeus's bolt is the most powerful weapon ever created.
- It's been stolen.
... Between this world and the next...
- If it's not returned by the summer solstice, there will be war.
... Are three heroes...
- All demigods have inherited skills.
- I definitely have strong feelings for you. I just haven't decided if they're positive or negative yet.
... Who must stand and fight.
- We'll find the bolt.
- There's nowhere safe on heaven and earth water now.
- Take this to defend yourself. It's a powerful weapon.
- This is a pen.
- We'll use it in times of severe distress.
- This is a pen!
- Click it! Whoa!
- Time has run out.
- Maybe you're not a son of Poseidon.
