"Clarity" is a song by German/Russian electronic dance music producer Zedd. It serves as the third single from his debut studio album of the same name. It features vocals from English singer Foxes. The song was written by Zedd, Matthew Koma, Porter Robinson and Skylar Grey and released as iTunes Single of the Week on October 2, 2012, and as an EP on February 12, 2013 via Interscope Records.

This 128 BPM, synth-driven Dance hit has an unusual structure, with the short, but memorable chorus showing up four times in the song. An instrumental break occurs early in the song, and is squeezed in between the first two repetitions of the chorus. There are just two verses, but they run 30 seconds each - an eternity in the Dance genre - with the song dipping to near silence before the second one. This is followed by the third chorus, which around the 3-minute mark goes into a chanting bridge as the beat builds. Another break follows, with Foxes singing bits of the chorus lyrics ("Why are you my clarity...") until it resolves with that last chorus.

All this content pushes the running time of the song to 4:31, making it one of the longer Dance hits of its time.

High dive into frozen waves where the past comes back to life
Fight fear for the selfish pain, it was worth it every time
Hold still right before we crash 'cause we both know how this ends
A clock ticks 'til it breaks your glass and I drown in you again

'Cause you are the piece of me I wish I didn't need
Chasing relentlessly, still fight and I don't know why

If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy?
If our love's insanity, why are you my clarity?

(Hey-ay, hey-ay-ay. Hey-ay, hey-ay-ay. Hey-ay, hey-ay-ay. Hey-ay, hey)

If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy?
If our love's insanity, why are you my clarity?

Walk on through a red parade and refuse to make amends
It cuts deep through our ground and makes us forget all common sense
Don't speak as I try to leave 'cause we both know what we'll choose
If you pull then I'll push too deep and I'll fall right back to you

'Cause you are the piece of me I wish I didn't need
Chasing relentlessly, still fight and I don't know why

If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy?
If our love's insanity, why are you my clarity?

(Hey-ay, hey-ay-ay. Hey-ay, hey-ay-ay. Heeeeeeeeeeeey)

Why are you my clarity?
Why are you my remedy?
Why are you my clarity?
Why are you my remedy?

If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy?
If our love's insanity, why are you my clarity?

HIGH DIVE= To dive is to jump into water head first. To high dive is to dive from a very high place.

FROZEN= Very very cold (literally means turned into ice)

WAVES= Sea water in motion (see picture)

COMES BACK TO LIFE= Becomes alive or real again.

SELFISH= If you are selfish, you only think of what is good for you and don’t care about other people.

IT WAS WORTH IT EVERY TIME= It was always a good thing to do.
If something is “worth it”, that means that all the effort you put into it makes sense because the result is very good or important.

HOLD STILL= Don’t move, stop.

RIGHT BEFORE WE CRASH= We can use RIGHT to emphasize expressions of place and time (e.g. I need it right here, right now = immediately). “Right before” means “exactly the moment before...” To CRASH is when two things collide, hit each other powerfully and one (or both) are destroyed.

CAUSE= (coll.) Because.

OUR CLOCK TICKS= Time passes by.

'TIL= (conversational) Until.

DROWN= /draʊn/ If you drown, you are under water and you can’t breathe, so you can die.

WISH= We use “wish + past tense” to express a wish.
- I wish I didn’t need it = I don’t want to need it
- I wish it rained = I need rain
- He wished he had a bigger house = He wants to have a bigger house
The difference between WISH and WANT is that WISH usually expresses something which is very hard or impossible to get.

CHASING= Running after something in order to get it.
- The lion chased the gazelle but the gazelle finally escaped.

RELENTLESSLY= Nonstop, always trying, with no break.

REMEDY= A remedy for something is what can cure it or solve that problem; the antidote.

INSANITY= Craziness. If you are insane, you are crazy.

CLARITY= The ability to see things clearly, to see life as it really is, with no distortion or confusion. The ability to think correctly.

WALK ON= Continue walking.
The particle ON usually expresses the idea that the action continues.

PARADE= Procession.

TO MAKE AMENDS= To compensate for something wrong you did.

COMMON SENSE= Correct and logical judgment or thought.

AS= When; while.

It took me some time, but I think I understand this song now.

The first verses seem to deal with the relationship ending, though both people are fighting the ending. Their love is a tragedy and insanity, but she knows there was good in the love they shared.'

The second verses are her actually leaving, and hoping he doesn't pull, because she wants the strength to leave, not to fall back to him and the fights they keep having, which would be a red parade of pain.

The fact that she is asking these questions goes deep into her thoughts. She wants to know why, despite everything that has happened, she continues to love, to desire this someone a a remedy and clarity.

In relationships, often people stay together, despite not being meant to be together, for whatever reasons. Love can blind us and make us truly believe that person is the remedy, and somehow we can work past the problems.

This reminds me a lot of a former ex who destroyed my heart, and yet, I still saw her as a remedy and clarity myself. I asked that question countless times in many ways, before I finally accepted her for who she was. Little toy birds always lie.
