Taylor Swift abandons her usual country pop kind of music and creates this wild and stunning pop song which became one of the top 2014's hits.

I stay out too late
Got nothing in my brain
That's what people say, mmm-mmm
That's what people say, mmm-mmm

I go on too many dates
But I can't make them stay
At least that's what people say, mmm-mmm
That's what people say, mmm-mmm

But I keep cruising
Can't stop, won't stop moving
It's like I got this music
In my mind
Saying, "It's gonna be alright."

'Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off

Heart-breakers gonna break, break, break, break, break
And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off

I never miss a beat
I'm lightning on my feet
And that's what they don't see, mmm-mmm
That's what they don't see, mmm-mmm

I'm dancing on my own (dancing on my own)
I make the moves up as I go (moves up as I go)
And that's what they don't know, mmm-mmm
That's what they don't know, mmm-mmm

But I keep cruising
Can't stop, won't stop grooving
It's like I got this music
In my mind
Saying, "It's gonna be alright."

'Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off

Heart-breakers gonna break, break, break, break, break
And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off

Shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off

Hey, hey, hey
Just think while you've been getting down and out about the liars
and the dirty, dirty cheats of the world,
You could've been getting down to this sick beat.

My ex-man brought his new girlfriend
She's like "Oh, my god!"
But I'm just gonna shake.
And to the fella over there
With the hella good hair
Won't you come on over, baby?
We can shake, shake, shake

Yeah ohhh

'Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate (haters gonna hate)
I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off

Heart-breakers gonna break, break, break, break, break (mmmm)
And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake
     (and fake, and fake, and fake)
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off

Shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off

Shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off

Shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off (you've got to),
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off,
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off

STAY OUT= In this context, if you stay out too late that means that you party all night and come back home too late.

GOT= (informal) I've got, I have.

I GO ON TOO MANY DATES= I go out with too many boys, I've got too many boyfriends. To go on a date = to have a romantic appointment.

I CAN'T MAKE THEM STAY= I can't make our relationship last. I get new boyfriends but I can't keep a relationship with them, so they finally break up and leave me.

AT LEAST= Anyway.

KEEP= Continue (+ -ing)

CRUSING= (slang) Looking for a boyfriend (especially in a public place)

WON'T= (will not) Don't want to, refuse. The verb WILL very often expresses volition, willingness, so it means the same as WANT.

I GOT= (informal) I have, I've got.

'CAUSE= Because.

PLAYERS= A male who is skilled at manipulating ("playing") others, and especially at seducing women by pretending to care about them, when in reality they are only interested in sex. Possibly derived from the phrases "play him for a fool", or "play him like a violin", maybe also related to "playboy" (a male seducer). The term was popularized by hip-hop culture, but was commonly recognized among urban American blacks by the 1970s.

GONNA= (coll.) Are going to.

HATERS= People who hate.

I SHAKE IT OFF= I get rid of it, I get free from it. In the context of this song, it means "I don't care what they say, I'm immune to their criticism".

HEART-BREAKERS= People who break your heart. If someone breaks your heart, they make you love them and then they do something that hurts you a lot.

FAKERS= People who fake. To fake is to deceive, to fool, to make you think that something is A when it is really B.

MISS A BEAT= (coll.) Hesitate; pause.

I'M LIGHTNING ON MY FEET= I never stop, I'm always moving and doing things very fast and hecticly. LIGHTNING is the quick flash of light that we can see some times during an electric storm. If you are like lightning, you are really really fast and active.

ON MY OWN= Alone, without company; without help.

I MAKE THE MOVES UP= I improvise, I don't plan my next movement (my next action).

AS I GO= If you decide something "as you go", you decide it while you are doing things, you don't stop to think and then do it.

GROOVING= (coll.) Having a great time, enjoying myself.

IT'S LIKE I GOT= (coll.) It is as if I had...

GETTING DOWN AND OUT= (coll.) Getting deprived of everything, left with nothing.

LIARS= People who lie.

DIRTY= Disgusting, hateful.

CHEATS= People who cheat. To cheat is to deceive, to fool.

GETTING DOWN= (coll.) Dancing.

SICK BEAT= Not too sure about what she means here. A sick beat, literally means a horrible, disgusting or crazy rhythm. But also, "a sick beat" is a slang term used in poker, but not sure about the exact meaning there either, sorry. Any ideas?

EX-MAN= Ex boyfriend or ex husband.

SHE'S LIKE "OH MY GOD!"= (coll.) She's fantastic, gorgeous; She said, "Oh my God!". (I suppose it's meaning number 1 here)

FELLA= (slang) Fellow = Person (esp. a man)

HELLA GOOD HAIR= (slang) Fantastic hair. HELLA= Hell of a: used to emphasize something, in this case, the word "good hair", so "hella good hair" (hell of a good hair) means: incredible, gorgeous, fantastic hair.

WON'T YOU...?= The same as "Will you...?", used to make an invitation = Do you want to...?

COME ON OVER= Come on, come here.

This track finds Taylor Swift dismissing her haters. The song was inspired by how the country-pop princess has learned to deal with all the false rumors that have circulated since her 2012 Red album. "I've had to learn a pretty tough lesson in the past couple years that people can say whatever they want about at any time, and we cannot control that," said Swift. "The only thing we can control is our reaction to that … You can either let it get to you … [or] you just shake it off."

Taylor said the tune was born from her own challenges. "I want this song to go out into the world and not be about my critics," she explained to Fusion's Alicia Menendez. "I want it to be about the girl who's criticizing someone in 11th grade because she thinks that her hair looks stupid. And that girl then goes and cries in the bathroom because of it. These are things that we go through in every phase of our life, starting with your job, and there's just someone who has it out for you."

"I had a lot of days where I would come home from school and get in the car, and my mom would try so hard to console me because someone had made fun of me or someone had said something about me or not invited me to something that I was dying to go to," Taylor continued. "And she would always try to find songs that would bring me out of that. Music always helped distract me from that. So I think my greatest hope is that this started out to be about my life, and I just want it to go out into cars and speakers and earphones and become about their lives."
