A film based on the story of Guy Fawkes but translated to the future. It starts like this:

In the near future, Britain is ruled by Norsefire, a totalitarian government. Evey Hammond, a young woman who works at a TV station, is rescued from an attempted rape by members of the secret police by a Guy Fawkes-masked vigilante known as "V". He leads her to a rooftop to watch his destruction of the Old Bailey. Norsefire publicly explains the incident as a planned demolition, but V exposes the lie by taking over a state-run television station the next day. He broadcasts a message urging the people of Britain to rise against the oppressive government on 5 November, (in exactly one year's time) by meeting him outside the Houses of Parliament. Evey then helps V to escape the TV station, but is accidentally knocked out in the process.

I wish I wasn't afraid all the time but... I am.
People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.
Those caught in violation of curfew will be prosecuted without leniency or exception.
It's past curfew, you know.
Help me!!
Have mercy!
Oh, not tonight.
Who are you?
Gentlemen, I want this terrorist found, and I want him to understand what terror really means.
We're working on several leads.
Her parents were detained when she was twelve.
It was like those black bags erased them from the face of the earth.
Mummy!
You have one chance. You must tell us the whereabouts of code name V.
If our own government was responsible for the deaths of a hundred thousand people... would you really wanna know?
Please!
Those who are responsible will be held accountable.
The time has come for you to live without fear.
I'm ready.
This country stands on the edge of oblivion,
I want everyone to remember why they need us.
Kill him.
My turn.
I somehow have this feeling that everything was connected.
We're all part of it.
Are we ready for it?
The only verdict is vengeance.

WISH= This verb is followed by a past tense (or "would"): I wish I wasn't afraid.

PEOPLE= In this line, the first word, "people" means "persons", and the last word, "people" means "nation" (as the group of individuals making up a national society). So the first word is plural and the second word is singular:
1- People here are very nice ( 1 person, 2 people)
2- My people wants more freedom. All the peoples in the world need peace.

VIOLATION= Transgression (the breaking of a rule).

CURFEW= A law that forbids people to be in the streets later than a set time.

PROSECUTED= Arrested by the police and sent to trial.

LENIENCY= (formal) The act of being lenient. "Lenient" is the opposite of "harsh, strict".

MERCY= Compassion.

WE'RE WORKING ON SEVERAL LEADS= We have several lines of investigation; we are investigating different possibilities.

DETAINED= (formal) Arrested.

ERASED= Deleted, eliminated.

FROM THE FACE OF THE EARTH= If something is eliminated from the face of the earth, they disappear (maybe killed) and it's impossible to find them anymore, anywhere.

CHANCE= Opportunity.

THE WHEREABOUTS OF X= The place where X is or is hiding.

CODE NAME V= A person whose code name is "V". The letter V (= Roman numeral 5) is a reference to the 5th of November (the day when Guy Fawkes was executed).

WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE= If you are held accountable for something, you are considered responsible for it and you must pay for it.

ON THE EDGE OF= Very close to, very near...

OBLIVION= (formal) The state of being forgotten. If something falls in oblivion, it is forgotten and nobody remembers it. Here, the president is afraid that people are forgetting how much they need the government.

VERDICT= The sentence dictated by a judge or jury when they say if a criminal is guilty or innocent and what the penalty should be for them.

VENGEANCE= Revenge. The Italian word for "vengeance" is "vendetta".
